Professional Examiner
Emma is a professional IGCSE examiner, ex-head-of-department, and UK curriculum leader. As a tutor who takes great pride in getting to know the individual needs of each student, she interweaves her expert knowledge into all lessons to help students not only improve in maths, but also exam technique.
Emma’s unique knowledge of UK Key Stage assessments proves invaluable in supporting her tutees: It enables her to see and advise on the longer-term picture, creating lessons that provide a strong foundation for learning in years to come.
In every lesson, Emma’s aim is always for her students to leave feeling more confident in their abilities and proud of their achievements. She strongly believes that with the right support, development of learning skills, clear explanations, and appropriate challenge questions, every student has endless potential. Playing a part in a student’s development has always been considered by Emma to be an enormous privilege, planning and strategising for every student with devout care and attention.
Emma has been teaching in schools in the UK and in the UAE since 2012 and has been working exclusively with JTC Education since 2022. She has experience running a leading Mathematics department in Dubai and has led ‘Teaching and Learning’ courses across multiple schools across the UAE. While Head of Department, she developed bespoke curriculum and assessments to support the transition between different Key Stages. Utilising technology to empower students in their independent learning, Emma also became the first “SPARX Maths” lead in the UAE. Her work with SPARX Maths was even used as a showcase, which led 16 other schools in the UAE to adopt the same technology.
In her last year of classroom teaching, her year 11 GCSE students increased 3 grades on average, with one student beginning the year at a grade 2 and achieving a grade 7 in finals. Emma’s year 10 group sat their GCSE one year early; 60% achieved a grade 9 and 86% of the students achieved a grade 8 or 9. 46% of Emma’s A-level students achieved a grade A/A*.
“I just wanted to take this opportunity to write a big thank you to Emma for all her help and support over the past year. It has been an extremely tough year for our son and as much as he has hidden his struggles well, we will always be thankful for everything she has done for him. He adores her as a teacher and his love for Math would not have grown without she being there for him. It certainly means a lot, so many thanks again.”
“It has been a pleasure having Emma as my teacher for 2 years. She believed in me when I barely could and that acted as a catalyst as to who I am now! Thank you, Emma, for all the effort you’ve put into making our lessons interesting as well as insightful.”
"Our daughter would not have been able to achieve everything she has achieved without Emma’s inspiration and motivation, and for that we are eternally grateful. It's only on rare occasions in life that one is lucky enough to have a teacher who truly inspires and challenges them. Our daughter is one of the lucky few to have experienced that with Emma, and I'm sure it's an experience she will cherish and remember for the rest of her life.”
