Ranked 2nd in her cohort of Classics and English from the University of Oxford, Maya loves hearing ideas about language and writing. Across her years as a tutor, Maya has seen the remarkable impact that tuition can have on a student’s ability, confidence, and enjoyment of a subject. She shares her career as a professional tutor with that of a professional archivist, committing a regular portion of her week to both. It is Maya’s belief that it is a tutor’s duty to establish a space where students feel keen to express their thoughts and questions, and that it is this that eventually develops into compelling writing.
Maya has been tutoring English and Classics in 1-to-1 and group sessions since graduating in 2019. She has always centred her tuition at GCSE level and beyond around assessment objectives and mark schemes laid out by each exam board, as it is with due attention to these that students may hit the top-level bands in their writing. Maya’s tutoring style - which involves helping students understand where they can help themselves –has invariably proven to help all her students grow into capable and ambitious academics.
"Maya is a friendly, patient, and encouraging tutor, who has a very in-depth knowledge of the A Level curriculum and the texts I covered. She helped me in many ways, developing my exam skills and also in regaining my confidence and enjoyment for English as a subject. I owe a lot of my confidence in my writing abilities to Maya, and I would highly recommend."
''Thanks to his lessons with Maya, my son progressed from getting consistent Level 5s in class, to receiving a 9 in his exams! He was blown away, and is now thinking about applying for Classics at Oxford -- so Maya is coaching him for the Oxbridge admissions tests and interviews."
'We are super happy with our experience with Maya as an English tutor. She is very knowledgeable about the subject, always helpful and accommodating, and puts in amazing amounts of effort in preparing for tutor sessions and giving useful feedback afterwards. Highly recommended."
